Alfred "Al" Salazar

Alfred “Al” Salazar, age 75, passed away on Wednesday October 2, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Born October 18, 1948 in Texas to Marcus and Tommie Salazar, Al’s life was marked by dedication, success, and a profound love for his family and community.

On August 17, 1968 Al married his wife Anna in Lampasas, Texas. Shortly after, they moved to Denton, Texas where Al pursued higher education at the University of North Texas. His passion for learning led him to earn dual undergraduate degrees, as well as his Masters degree.

In 1974, Al had an opportunity to work with the Denver Regional Council of Governments. He was then recruited by the City of Littleton in Colorado. He and Anna embraced these opportunities and made Colorado their home base. Al served as the Deputy City Manager, overseeing the financing and development of numerous public buildings, infrastructure, and utilities. He was proud of this role, which also included the improvements with the Santa Fe Railroad.

Al’s interest and expertise in finance blossomed into a 30-year career as an investment banker, where he arranged billions of dollars in financing for clients across the globe. He was known on Wall Street as a visionary, creating innovative financial solutions for both industry and government sectors.

In the final two decades of his career, Al channeled his financial acumen into developing his own businesses, particularly in the energy and recycling industries. His efforts brought significant growth to sectors including construction, logistics, and manufacturing, and most notably he created Jefferson Energy Terminal at the Port of Beaumont, Texas, a premier crude oil and refined products terminal.

Though deeply dedicated to his work, Al found joy in playing rounds of golf, savoring great meals, or spending cherished time with his loved ones. He was a creative thinker, a mentor to many, and a loving, generous presence in the lives of all who knew him. To his family, Al was everything.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus Sr. and Tommie; his brother Marcus; and his beloved dog Max. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anna; his children, Adam, Amanda, and Amelia; and his grandchildren, Jeremy, Isabella, Allie, and Jemma.

Al’s battle with cancer was fought with the same determination and strength that he brought to every aspect of his life. In honor of his resilience, Dr. Eric Liu, Al’s surgeon, is establishing a training program in his name to advance the treatment of rare cancers similar to Al’s.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Al’s memory to “The Healing Net”, an organization close to their hearts.

Alfred Salazar will be remembered as a man of great integrity, a true visionary, and a respected mentor - a legacy that will live on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and all whose lives he touched.
