It is with great sadness that the family of Benjamin Michael Robertson, long-time resident of Colorado, shares that he passed unexpectedly in Boulder at the age of 33.
Ben was born to Marie Giannangeli and Clark Robertson on September 24, 1990, in Denver. From the beginning, he had an inquisitive mind, and developed an interest in math and science at an early age. He attended Cherry Creek High School and in 2018, received his associate’s degree in chemistry from the Community College of Denver. Ben had just graduated this past May from the University of Colorado Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. He described this achievement and the festivities that followed as “one of the most enjoyable nights I have had in my entire life.”
Ben loved his friends and remained loyal to them. He was known for his intellect, kindness, ingenuity, and wry sense of humor. The rapid pace at which he processed information allowed him to see and solve complicated mathematical equations in his head.
Ben developed many hobbies in his life including geology, skateboarding, snowboarding and more recently, poi, where he was happy to show his skills.
He enjoyed watching movies and listening to music for many hours, caring for his plants, fishing with his father, gardening with his mother and attending concerts with his friends at Red Rocks Amphitheater. He also loved his family's annual treks to Vail to see his grandmother and cousins during the holidays.
Ben was genuine to his core and down to earth, void of any false pretenses. An extraordinary young man who led an uncommon life, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Ben is survived by his mother, Marie Giannangeli (Jim); father, Clark Robertson (Suzanne); sister, Lauren Quinn (Laine); and paternal grandmother, Dorothea Robertson. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ralph K. (“Ken”) Robertson, maternal grandfather, Col. Anthony R. Giannangeli, USAF, and maternal grandmother, Mary Louise Giannangeli, along with numerous extended family members.
In mid-August, a private family gathering will be held at Seven Stones Chatfield --Botanical Gardens Cemetery in Littleton, CO.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Academic Program Funds at the University of Colorado Boulder, College of Arts and Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry at the following link: https://giving.cu.edu/fund/chemistry-department-support-fund-0.
