Betty Jane Boydstun

Betty Jane Boydstun, age 87, died on February 25, 2024. She was born and raised on a farm in Elyria, OH with her two sisters, June and Linda. After graduating from Hiram College, she moved to Colorado where she met and married Richard Dean Boydstun, her husband of 59 years.

She and Richard had two children, Beverly and David. David passed away in 2005, but his wife Annie and two children, Bryn and Dylan, remained an important part of Betty’s life. Bev, her husband Dan, and two children, Alan and Rachel, have also been prominent in Betty’s life.

Professionally, Betty was an award-winning elementary school teacher. She influenced many young lives and inspired other educators with her skill and commitment to her students. Personally, Betty liked to sew and make quilts. She lived by the motto, “leave things better than you found them.” She did just that in her classroom, her home, and her garden where she planted and nurtured many trees and flowers.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life service for Betty on Tuesday, March 5 from 3:00 - 6:00 at Heflebower Funeral & Cremation Services located at 8955 S. Ridgeline Blvd., Ste 100, Highlands Ranch Co 80129. A reception will follow.

Because Betty’s family has been impacted by mental illness, we are suggesting donations to The Brain and Behavior Research Foundation in lieu of flowers. Their mission is "to alleviate the suffering caused by mental illness by awarding grants that will lead to advances and breakthroughs in scientific research." 100% of any donations go directly to fund much needed research in this area. Here is the link to their website where a donation button is clearly visible: https://bbrfoundation.org/
