Bill "Billy Dean” Poindexter was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 92, surrounded by his family.
Bill was the first child of Jessie Louise and Jess Poindexter, born August 31st 1931 in Lenapah, Oklahoma. Wanting to see the world while also serving his country, Bill joined the United States Air Force. He was eventually stationed at Aviano Air Base in the province of Pordenone, Italy. While stationed at Aviano, Bill met a beautiful young Italian women, Maria. The two married shortly after and would go on to share the last 64 years together.
During his time in the military, Bill was stationed at several other airbases and was deployed to Vietnam. He also received his Bachelor Degree in Business from the University of Nebraska, Omaha. After retiring from the Air Force as a Master Sargent, Bill worked for the United States Government as a Background Investigator.
Though Bill loved serving his country, what brought him ultimate joy was being a doting, dedicated father, husband and eventually a grandfather and great-grandfather. He instilled a passion for learning, language, music, travel, and the Oklahoma Sooners. In his free time, one could find Bill sitting on his back patio enjoying a good book, finishing his daily cross-word puzzle, or simply listening to the works of his favorite musicians. Throughout the years he was sure to spend time in his ultimate happy place, the family’s home in Meduno, Italy.
Bill is survived by his wife Maria, their three children and their spouses Dawn and Jeff, Daphne and Bryan, and Dean and Germaine. His grandchildren, Amanda, Harrison, Nicholas, Logan, Jackson, Anna and Brooke. His great-grandchildren Mason and Reese. Siblings brother Donnie and sister Wanda.
A funeral service will be held on Monday September 18, 2023, at 10:30am at Heflebower Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 8955 South Ridgeline Boulevard, Suite 100, Highlands Ranch, Colorado 80129.
A Graveside Service will follow at 1:00pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery, located at 4400 West Kenyon Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80236, at Staging Area “C”.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Disabled American Veterans in Billy's name.
