Carmela Raeside, age 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Swedish Medical Center. She was born July 29, 1928 in New York City to Antonio and Crocifissa (Mary) Santucci, immigrants from Italy. She married Thomas (Scotty) Raeside in 1981. She worked as a bookkeeper for 32 years at RAIN Home Attendant Service in the Bronx until she retired at 82 years of age.
Carmela came to Colorado from New York in March of 2024 to be near her son and daughter-in-law, George and Kathy Morkovin of Littleton, and in anticipation of her other son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Debra Serra, joining them from New York early next year.
She enjoyed her independent living at Lakeview Senior Living in Lakewood and was a regular at the evening movie, resident socials, game playing and trips to the casino. She will be missed by the residents and staff alike.
She loved Colorado and was amazed at "how far you can see", the blue skies and clouds, and the mountains. She always listened for horns honking in traffic and was surprised when she didn't hear any.
Carmela was a curious and inventive person who was always asking questions and figuring out creative ways to do things. She liked to dance, even at Lakeview Senior Living. She was creative and artistic. Carmela always dressed well, we never saw her in sweat pants.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Scotty, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. She is survived by one sister Lucy, her two sons George and Gerald, 2 granddaughters, Serena in Louisiana and Stephany in Texas, and 2 great-grandsons, Tristian and Maverick. Her extended family in Colorado adds another 3 granddaughters, Kelly, Ashley, and Leigh, and an additional 8 grandchildren, Joshua, Balin, Katelyn, T.J., Brady, Taylor, Gunther and Sophia.
One of the highlights of recent years was traveling to Louisiana to see her granddaughter Serena, and meet her youngest great-grandson Tristian, for his first birthday.
She will be greatly missed by her extended family in Colorado, her sons and daughters-in-law, her sister, as well as her granddaughters Serena and Stephany, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a joy to know and a very special lady.
A service at Seven Stones Cemetery will be held at 10am September 4, 2024.
