Christian James Atkinson

Christian James Atkinson, 28 years old passed away at his home in New York City on April 30, 2024.

Born in Littleton Colorado on August 30, 1995. He graduated from Heritage High School in 2013 and went on to study theatre and costuming at the University of Evansville in Indiana, where he graduated in 2017.

Christian’s summers were spent working for local children theatres, at the Central City Opera House and the Brevard Opera Center, then he felt the call to follow his heart and passion for theatre and costuming and headed for the Big Apple.

He left for New York, sight unseen with no job. Found an apartment and in three days had six interviews and he found a tremendous opportunity to work with Donna Langman Costumes where he was able to hone his craft working with Broadway theatre. He produced the beautiful costumes for Broadway shows such as Hamilton, Aladdin, Lion King, Kinky Boots; TV shows The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Jesus Christ Superstar and the movie Hocus Pocus 2 until the industry closed for COVID.

When things opened back up, Christian went to work for the Metropolitan Opera for their re-opening season in 2021. Recent years brought him back to supporting various studios for many Broadway shows, including Six and the new Broadway hit The Great Gatsby, his last show.

He was a member of IATSE Local 764 and was very talented and passionate about his sewing and loved his craft.

He loved his family and was loved and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his mother Laurie Heyer Atkinson, father, Mike Atkinson, siblings Katie, David, Jennifer, and Brooke Atkinson, and many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 18, at 1:00 p.m. at The Chapel at Cherry Hills Community Church, Highlands Ranch, CO.
