Christine Jeanne Caldwell, née Kornegay, was born on August 27, 1960, in Victorville, CA to Marcel and Jeanne Kornegay. After spending her early childhood in Chateauroux, France, Christine moved with her family to Colorado Springs where she graduated from Widefield High School at the top of her class and as a trail blazer for girl’s participation in the sport of cross country. Christine earned a Master of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She later became a Certified Public Accountant and established her own independent CPA firm which she successfully operated for over 35 years and until recently. In addition to her career Christine leaves a legacy of professionalism, commitment, and keen attention to detail in her public life. She was a compassionate and tireless advocate for homeowners at the StoneCrest HOA, having served in the past as a board member and its president.
Christine and then-husband David lovingly welcomed son, Matthieu, in 1992. She became heavily invested in Matthieu's educational, professional and athletic development, coaching him in basketball, baseball and cross country. Christine also became a devoted and loving mémère (grandma) at the births of Kairo (in 2018) and Ezekiel (in 2021). In addition to being a CPA, homeowner advocate, devoted grandmother and loyal friend, Christine was an accomplished athlete in her own right. Having lettered in track, over the years she continued her participatory interest by running along the many scenic trails in and around northern and central Colorado. She also enjoyed riding her bike, yoga and reading, and was an accomplished amateur photographer.
Surrounded by family, Christine died on June 11, 2023 at her home in Colorado Springs. She was predeceased by her parents, Jeanne and Marcel and her sister, Garfielda, and is survived by her son, Matthieu; daughter-in-law, Seyanna; sisters Kate Brannan and Marie-France Garceau; and grandsons Kairo and Ezekiel. She will continue to be revered by her family in the U.S. and France, and by her many close friends and associates.
A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Heflebower Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 8955 S. Ridgeline Blvd., Ste. 100, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129.
