Doris L. Carlson

Doris Louise Carlson (Benjegerdes) was born on April 20, 1941 in Postville, Iowa. She passed from this life into eternal life on November 12, 2018 at her home. Doris was 77 years old at the time of her death.

Doris attended a one room schoolhouse from kindergarten through 8th grade in rural Postville, Iowa. She then attended Postville High School, where she met the love of her life, Bob Carlson. Doris and Bob got married on April 23, 1961. They raised three children, had adventures great and small, and were happily married for 35 years until his unexpected death in 1996.

Doris worked through much of her life, most notably for 25 years at ServiceMaster where she served in a variety of administrative roles including legal assistant. Following her retirement, she relocated from the Chicago suburbs to Littleton, Colorado where she lived down the street from her youngest daughter. In Colorado, Doris became ingrained into her family’s daily life, particularly taking an active and loving role in the lives of her grandsons. Doris also built a close network of friends through her commitment to Ascension Lutheran Church and her volunteer work with the Denver Botanic Gardens, PEO Chapter BS, and her grandsons’ school.

Doris was also a passionate gardener throughout her life. She loved to be outdoors, hike, travel, and learn. Most of all, Doris enjoyed spending time with friends, family, and her grandchildren, where she was always eager to listen, quick to smile, and loved sharing a good story. Doris was incredibly strong and loving and showed a great deal of care and respect to all she met. She will be missed terribly by all that knew and loved her and thought of always by those that knew her best.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband Bob Carlson. She is survived by her children Robert Carlson of Chicago, IL; Kristin Ulm and her husband Scott of Oswego, IL; and Jennifer March and her husband Chris of Littleton, CO; her nephew Eric Carlson and his wife Jessica of Sewickley, PA; siblings Ruth Livingston, David Benjegerdes, and Don Benjergerdes; her grandchildren Shaylan, Macy, Andrew, and Evan; and numerous friends and relatives.

The funeral service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church at 1701 W. Caley Avenue in Littleton, CO at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 1. Pastor John Larson will be officiating. Please join us for a luncheon and celebration of her life immediately following the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or the American Cancer Society.
