Dorothy Dozier Lane 1949 - 2024
We are saddened by the loss of a beautiful and exceptional mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend, Dorothy “Dottie” Dozier Lane. She peacefully passed away on November 25th, 2024, at the age of 74 in Colorado after a ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was the brightest light in every room and now is an angel in heaven.
Dottie was born on December 2nd, 1949 in Cuthbert, Georgia to Dorothy Currie Strickland and George Wayne Dozier. She attended elementary school at Leary Elementary and attended Morgan Middle School. Dottie graduated with honors from Calhoun County High School in Edison, GA. She was a class officer all four years, on the basket ball team, and homecoming queen. At the time, her five year old sister, Diana, recalls thinking Dottie was truly a queen. Dottie went on to teach at her own high school for a brief period and had a lasting impression on many students and fellow faculty.
Dottie majored in history and graduated from Huntingdon College, a college of the United Methodist Church, in Montgomery, Alabama in 1971. She continued her pageantry being crowned Miss Huntingdon one of her years there. It was also during this time that she earned her high school teaching certification in history. She always loved learning about the World, the past, and art. She humorously named her first dog, Rasputin, after the the controversial Russian figure.
Dottie married her true love, Larry Don Hall, on August 24th, 1990 in Little Rock, Arkansas where they resided. They were married for almost 30 years when Larry passed away in 2019 from cancer. When Dottie married Larry, she gained another beloved son, Bryan Hall. Dottie and Larry had many adventures including exploring her father’s home of Australia and scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef. Their mutual love of the ocean guided them to Port Aransas, Texas. They lived a short walk from the beach in which Dottie walked daily.
One of Dottie’s greatest roles in life was a mother to Philip Lorin Sechler, Mary Sechler Knape (Martin Knape), and Bryan Bedford Hall (Laura Hall). She was more than overjoyed to become a grandmother to Griffin, Anna, Jonathan, Justin, and Lauren. Time stood still when she was with them, and she was always up for playing or going to the park.
Dottie was passionate about her career and held top positions within the telecommunications field for 25 years. Over her career span she was Director of Marketing for TCI, Vice President of Marketing for AT&T, Executive Director of Charter Communications, and Vice President and General Manager of Grande Communications. She was a strong mentor to many within the industry. One colleague noted that Dottie was “one of the highlights of her career. She had guts, did the right thing, and was beautiful inside and out.” In addition her high level corporate commitments, she always found time to volunteer. She served in many philanthropic roles, and in 1994 she was honored as Volunteer of the Year in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Dottie was gifted with being athletic, artistic, and fashionable. She loved tennis and racquetball along with an occasional 10K in her earlier years. She was a skilled water color artist painting Southern landmarks and beaches. She had a beautiful sense of style, and you could count on her to always be classic, timeless, and smart.
