Erik Miller, age 45, died at home on Friday, May 20th. Erik grew up in Colorado with his parents, Don and Ana (Contreras) Miller, and his brother, Karl. After graduating from Evergreen High School and University of Colorado, Erik married Emily Reshen in a spooktacular Halloween wedding. They shared a love of Halloween, nature, dogs, movies, laughter, and of course, their brilliant, funny daughter, Elena Ruby.
Erik worked tirelessly in the information security and data analytics fields and never backed away from a challenge, somehow managing to push his body and mind past their limits, even while undergoing treatment for colorectal cancer.
Erik discovered a passion for cycling in his 30s and threw himself into the sport with all the energy, dedication, and hard work he brought to his career. He loved the fun, the challenge, and the breathtaking scenery along the way. He served as a bike marshal for the Hot Chocolate Race and Colfax Marathon and a volunteer bike medic for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. He also volunteered for the USA Pro Challenge and enjoyed riding with the Major Taylor Cycling Club. Some of the rides that meant the most to him were the Triple Bypass, Denver Century Ride, Elephant Rock, and Copper Triangle, but it was riding with his daughter, Elena, that brought him the most joy.
Erik was also a techie and a tinkerer who loved to wire the house with all kinds of gadgets and gear. His patience and genius with fixing and upgrading those gadgets will be sorely missed.
Erik was a lover of sushi, gaming, technology, laughter, and music. Attending live concerts fed his soul.
Erik also enjoyed walks in nature with his family, glamping trips, and spending time playing games with his wife and daughter. He crushed it at UNO, Candy Land, and charades, and he shared his love of Magic: The Gathering with Elena.
Every person who met Erik was struck by his kind and generous spirit, his sharp wit, and his amazing sense of humor. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Erik will be remembered with love by his wife, Emily, and his daughter, Elena. He is also survived by his mother, Ana; his dog, Remy; his brother, Karl; and many friends who were incredibly special to him.
Erik was preceded in death by his father, Don Miller, and his beloved dogs, Yodi and Mozzie.
