Gilbert (Bert) Evans Cook
On Monday, October 14, 2019, Gilbert (Bert) Evans Cook of Highlands Ranch, CO, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 81.
Bert was born on April 5, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Gilbert John and Gertrude (Meyer) Cook. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction Technology from Bradley University in Peoria, IL in 1963, and was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. Bert worked for United Parcel Service in engineering and building services for 30 years, retiring in 1995.
On August 27, 1966 he married Karen Jean Rossing. They raised two sons, Brian and Jeff, and one daughter, Ellen.
Bert grew up in Chicago, IL and moved with his family to Atlanta (1975-1981) and then to Florida (Longwood and DeBary) in 1981. He built friendships with many and was deeply committed to his church, Holy Cross Lutheran in Lake Mary, FL. Upon moving to Colorado full time in 2018, he became a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Highlands Ranch, CO.
Bert loved golf, travel and being with family. For years, he traveled with his wife and dog, Casey, in their motorhome to see the country and visit friends and family. He brought a bright smile, laughter, and good humor to all. Bert had unconditional love for his family and positively impacted others’ lives with his boundless generosity.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, of Highlands Ranch, CO; sons Brian (Randi) of Scottsdale, AZ and Jeffrey (Autga) of Higbee, MO; daughter Ellen Reid (Scott) of Breckenridge, CO; sister Beverly Soltis (Roy) of Orland Park, IL; brother Randall (Donna) of Florence, AZ; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 3rd from 1:00pm – 3:00pm in Highlands Ranch, Colorado at the Wind Crest Retirement Community.
