Guy E. Smith

The family of Guy E. Smith are saddened to announce his unexpected passing on December 26, 2024 at the age of 65. He died at home of a sudden heart attack.

He was the great patriarch of our family, a father and leader of many. He leaves behind many who loved him dearly, including his wife Barbara Smith of 26 years; son, Taylor Smith (Taris); daughter Savanah Smith; stepdaughter, Andrea Rahberg (Adam), and stepson, David Risley (Carly). He was a hero to his grandchildren, Jaya Richards (Kadin), Baron Smith, Landon and Kellen Rahberg, Jack and William Risley and his great grandson, Nash Richards. He also leaves behind two brothers, David (Teri) and Larry Smith, stepmother Yvonne Mercadante, stepsister LaRonda Holmberg, and many nieces and nephews.

Guy was born to Gerald and Peggy Smith in Clovis, New Mexico. He moved around a bit and in 1990 he moved to Colorado chasing a hail storm and a fresh start. He quickly picked up the roofing business and was soon the owner of his own company. He had been a successful roofing company owner for the past 35 years.

All who knew Guy knew of his passion for anything with a motor, large and small. He was never without a collection of John Deere mowers, tractors, ATVs, motorcycles, and boats of all sizes and shapes. Some of our fondest family memories were the 25 years we boated on Ute Lake in Logan, New Mexico. Guy was a grill master and loved grilling steaks for his company as much as he loved boating and, without exception, everyone who had the pleasure of enjoying one of his steaks said it was the best they ever had! His most recent passion was their vacation home in Cape Coral, Florida.

He enjoyed learning a whole new kind of boating and fishing on the Gulf in his newest boat, a Blackfin center console. His last trip was to Cape Coral in mid-December where he had a wonderful time visiting with Savanah and friends.

Guy has always been a believer in Jesus Christ and often blessed those least expecting it. He and Taylor had a daily Bible reading for the past year with the goal of reading the Bible in a year and he was faithful to that. Most recently, Guy developed a strong desire to read his Bible, a Bible he’d had for many years but never read until now. He could often be found in his chair reading several times a day, as time allowed. He even told Barbara he was ready to join a Bible study! He found peace in God’s word. Seeing the change that was beginning in him was and is a great comfort to us, and we look forward to the day we’ll meet him again in the kingdom of God.

Services for Guy will be on Friday, January 10th, at 2:00 p.m. at Summit Church at 4240 North Perry Park Road in Sedalia, Colorado, 80135. For those unable to attend in person, Guy’s service will be live-streamed at the following link: Guy Smith Service Live-Stream

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Guy's name to Compassion International online at Compassion International an organization that Guy and Barb have faithfully supported for many years. The family feels that donating here would be an excellent way to carry on Guy’s legacy of generosity.
