Hope Fowlds, age 69, passed away in her sleep after suffering for 15 years from Huntington’s Disease. She was raised in a small town, Throckmorton, Texas, which had one stop light, but no liquor store or movie theater. Hope won the Miss Throckmorton Pageant while still in high school and went on to graduate from SMU in Dallas, Texas. She was the first in her family of 11 children to graduate from college. Hope married Jeff Fowlds in 1984 in Dallas, but the family was a rolling stone that gathers no moss. They moved to San Francisco for 4 years, Dallas again for 5, Kansas City for 4 years, and finally Denver for the last 27 (with a brief stint back in Dallas).
She raised two handsome boys who were her pride and joy: Gregory and Zachary. She ran them around from sporting event to sporting event as their accident-prone chauffeur, chef (made great reservations), and bottle washer. Hope lived for her boys, and no one ever cheered louder than her for everyone on their team. Her zest for life and desire not to waste one minute kept her motivated with a positive attitude to battle one of the deadliest neurological diseases -- Huntington’s -- with a smile on her face, not acknowledging that she even had the disease, while telling everyone she was AWESOME!
Hope is survived by her husband, Jeff, and her two sons, as well as her three sisters -- Martha Palmer, Connie Escamilla, and Janie Hartlieb -- and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Hope was always there to lend a helping hand, a smile to cheer you up, and a pep talk to keep you motivated. We never heard her complain about her disease and she always thought she was blessed.
Since Huntington’s cut much of her active life short, Hope would like to ask that in lieu of flowers you make a donation to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America to try to find a cure. Hope’s service will be held at the Discover Community Church, 13416 West Arbor Place, Littleton, Colorado, 80127 on Thursday, December 22, at 11 a.m. The service will be followed by Hope’s burial at Seven Stones Cemetery, 9635 North Rampart Range Road, Littleton, Colorado, at noon. Following these two events we will meet at Bear Creek Golf Club, 12201 Morrison Road. Lakewood, Colorado for a social gathering to celebrate her life. We know Hope would want all of us to celebrate her life with joy and happiness, with laughter and great Hopey stories. We look forward to seeing you there.
