Joan H Miller was born on February 15, 1933 to Herman Heinshohn and Thea Eickerman in Bronx, New York and entered her heavenly home on March 13, 2025. Joan is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence and survived by her children Eric, Kurt, and Lisa and her many grandchildren.
Joan grew up in the Bronx, NY and enjoyed a normal childhood. As a young woman, Joan joined the FBI as a radio operator where she met her husband Lawrence. They were married May 24, 1958 in New York City. Lawrence was from upstate New York living on a farm and Joan was a city girl. Though from very different upbringings, it was a marriage meant to be. After leaving New York they landed in Littleton, CO in 1976. During their marriage together, Joan was a homemaker focused on caring for their children, involved in PTA and a Cub Scout den mom, and spending time with her friends. She and Lawrence enjoyed 36 years of marriage until his passing in 1994.
As the children grew up, the family enjoyed road trips across the country, including a trip to Disneyland. Later in life, Joan enjoyed traveling with her dear friend Kathy. She also enjoyed her friends Nina and Claire. She also enjoyed knitting and painting.
A fun memory was of Joan trying to drive. As she attempted to drive the family Ford Falcon station wagon with the three on the tree transmission, she would frequently run into the back wall of the garage, causing the refrigerator to move. The children would quickly push the fridge back before Dad would see what Mom had done again. Driving the Falcon was not a skill she was good at!
Shopping, clothes, and shoes were Joan’s passion. She worked at May D & F and as long as she had “plastic” she had money, no matter what the actual balance in the bank account said. Her passion for clothes led to her having every closet in the house packed with her favorites.
Joan also loved her kids. She would ask Eric for advice on finances and difficult decisions and relied upon Kurt to help with fixing things and everyday help. Through her last year of life, Joan and her boys kept a close relationship. She appreciated them being there through the think and thin.
Joan leaves us with memories that will never fade, with experiences that we can draw from for the rest of our life, and a legacy that her grandchildren can learn from.
