JoAnn June Leikam, age 83 went to be the Lord on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. JoAnn was born on the 21st of April 1939 in Kansas City, Kansas to Royden and Eva Mitchell. She spent her early years growing up in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She was confirmed in Salem Congregational Church, graduated from Scottsbluff High School attended Scottsbluff Junior College obtaining a certificate for teaching and taught elementary classes in both Dix and Minatare Nebraska. She married Jerry Leikam on June 25 1961. The couple traveled to Seward, Nebraska where JoAnn taught in the elementary school while Jerry acquired his EE degree at the University of Nebraska.
The couple then moved to St Louis where JoAnn received a teaching degree from Harris Teachers College. She gave birth to her two sons Mark and Craig, and while raising the two boys, taught elementary grades at Wyland Elementary, Sunday School and Directed VBS at St Paul's UCC. Upon moving to Colorado in 1980, she taught students at Willows Child Learning Center before attaining a teaching position at Willow Creek Elementary. She retired from WCE and spent her remaining years caring for her family and her church. She was a table leader for over 18 years leading a Women on Wednesday Bible Study Group.
JoAnn's four grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life! She loved to attend every event she could where her grandchildren were involved. Her love for her family was evident in all she did. Many of her favorite times were spent hosting family get-togethers. Holidays birthdays celebrations, family cook outs...any excuse to get the family around her. She was an amazing lover of family, friends and of life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity, compassion and so much more. Every life she touched here on earth will remember her with love and affection. A life well lived!
She is survived by her husband Jerry, sons Mark (Kelly)and Craig (Allison) and grandchildren Christina, Andrew, Benjamin, Jessica, and sister Joyce Elaine. She was preceded in death by her brother David.
In Lieu of flowers family suggests donations to Denver Rescue Mission or Cherry Hills Community Church Manna Program.
