Karen McMullen, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2023, in Lone Tree, Colorado, lovingly surrounded by her husband, son, granddaughters, and siblings. She was born July 26, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, to Ira Chapman and Alice Louise (Lint) Gross. Karen was a 1965 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Portland, Oregon, and attended Seattle Pacific University. She married Jim McMullen, from Seattle, Washington, on June 17, 1967, in Portland, Oregon. They have one son, Jeffry James McMullen.
Karen was a homemaker. With a true love for her many friends and others, she served as a volunteer and speaker with Christian Women’s Club. Karen led countless private Bible studies throughout her life where she shared her love for Christ and gifts of hospitality and generosity. Karen and Jim were married for 56 years, and their one-of-a-kind relationship has been a ministry in its own right, demonstrating what a lifelong commitment to mutual partnership and love for each other looks like.
Karen and Jim loved to travel together. They enjoyed cruises in Europe, Central America, and closer to home in Washington and Alaska. After Jim’s retirement, their motorhome carried them from coast to coast across the United States several times, and their most memorable adventures included exploring the country with their beloved granddaughters.
Karen in survived by her husband, Jim; her son, Jeff; her granddaughters, Kennen and Leigh; her sister, Carolyn; her two brothers, Ira L. and Ken; as well as special nieces and nephews, Kristi, Kimberly, Ryan, Kevin, Nate, Melanie, and James.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Ira C. and Louise Gross.
Because Karen was so passionate about service to her community church, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to your favorite local church or Cherry Hills Community Church in her name.
