Mason Winters

Mason Dane Winters tragically passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Mason was born in Dallas, Texas to Shelby (Cassida) and Matt Winters on April 12, 2002. He did most of his growing up in Basehor, Kansas. He enlisted in the Air Force on his 17th birthday and graduated high school a year early to fulfill this military dream. After serving 5 years based out of Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, Nebraska he moved to Littleton Colorado to live with his mom, stepdad and younger sister.

Mason lived life intentionally with a purpose to fully enjoy it as an adventure seeker. Exploring snowboarding, surfing, motocross, mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, fishing, skateboarding; you name it he loved it! He lived more in his 22 years than most do in a lifetime. He loved being with friends and family, with an easy and infectious laugh. He thrived on his ability to talk anyone into following through with his crazy ideas! Once he set his mind to something he was all in and pursued wholeheartedly! He was instinctively good at any new thing he tried. Mason never held anything back and he was a truly outgoing individual. He had fun in everyday moments, and he loved very deeply. He was spontaneous, funny, hardworking, and had a natural infectious laugh. As quickly as he picked up a new hobby, bought or made all the things involved and quickly mastered it, he was on to the next bigger and better thing.

People were drawn to Mason. He was loved and touched so many lives in his short time. He loved big and gave the best hugs. He would do anything for a laugh or whatever reaction he could get. And, he would laugh his big laugh right alongside you at the outcome! He was a rule breaker who did some crazy things.

Mason leaves a big hole in the hearts of all those he leaves behind. His best friend and younger sister, Maryn Winters, mom, Shelby, and stepdad, Wayne Whitmore along with his sweet dog and constant companion, Millie; all of Littleton Colorado. His dad, Matt of Davenport, Iowa. His older sister, Madisyn, of Bonner Springs, Kansas. Uncle Justin, Aunt Sarah, and cousins Gracie, Evan and Ben Cassida of Littleton, Colorado. Grandparents Steve and Pam Cassida of Lakewood, Colorado. Maternal great grandmother, Verda Herrstrom Burke of Boone, Iowa. Paternal aunts Sara Sanders and April Winters of New Mexico. Numerous Great Aunts, Great Uncles and second cousins. Best friend from childhood, Chris Ashwell of Basehor, KS. Special friend, Melody Edmiston, of Oregon whom he loved from his military days. All of the wonderful brothers he met through the military; but especially Jake Fields, Joe Daniels and Ty Frost.

Mason left a legacy through organ donation gifts; saving 6 lives and enhancing countless others with his eyes, tissues, bones, tendons, etc. that he had registered to give. He was celebrated with the most beautiful Honor Walk at UC Highlands Ranch.

Mason will be buried Friday, April 11th at Ft. Logan National Cemetery (Staging Area B) at 2:30pm. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow at Green Gables Reserve Clubhouse 2139 S. Reed St, Lakewood, CO 80227. It will include a slide show, Mason’s favorite foods and music for all to hang out and laugh over shared memories. Dress is casual.

Donations can be made in Mason’s honor to Fishing the Good Fight.
