Matthew Wayne Jones Sr., age 59, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at his home in Littleton, Colorado. He was born on May 30th, 1963 in Kansas City, to Dorothy and Wayne Jones. Matt grew up in the Kansas City metro area where he was raised by Cindy and Wayne. He enjoyed his childhood living life on the farm, playing with the horses and terrorizing the goat. He then joined the Navy as a young man serving on the USS Cushing.
While in the Navy, he had two children, Becky and Matt Jr. After leaving the Navy, he settled in San Diego for many years before moving to Colorado to be near his grandchildren.
He worked as an electrical technician all of his life, having trained in the Navy and continuing his career afterwards with many different companies including Solar Turbines, Lockheed Martin and Finna Sensors, whom he was employed with until his date of passing. He had recently given his notice and was set to retire next Spring. His plan was to enjoy life with his children and grandchildren and was already making lunch plans for his days that would soon be free to enjoy.
Matt was an adventurer and kept himself busy with his family; kids, grandkids and “Blues Cruises” with his friends were all things he enjoyed. He also enjoyed a good happy hour at the local pub. His two favorites were the Waterton Tavern and the Columbine Lounge. He loved the Grateful Dead, the San Diego Padres and the Denver Broncos. Often times, he would call his children on Saturday morning to ask what they were doing for the day and they would find that he’d already enjoyed a morning kayaking. He enjoyed going back home to Kansas and spending time with his large family for the holidays, to catch a Broncos vs Chiefs football game or sometimes even a Kansas Jayhawks college basketball game.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim and his mother Dorothy. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Wayne and Cindy; his sisters Susie and Sally; his children, Becky and Matt Jr.; his grandchildren Carson, Kyler, James, Camden, Owen, Laila, Paislee, Penny; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Matt will be sorely missed by many near and far. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, son, friend, brother and uncle to so many that will carry his memory on.
Matt’s family will be holding a Celebration of Life Service at Heflebower Funeral Services on Friday, December 16th at 2pm. Please feel free to stop by and share in the laughs, memories, and reminiscing. We know this is what Matt would want.
