Patricia Dorothy Colburn, aged 93, passed away May 24, 2024 in Littleton, Colorado.
She was born on November 2, 1930, in New Brighton, England, across the Mersey River from Liverpool. She grew up in Wrexham, North Wales, with her father, William Horrocks Birch, mother Dorothy Lankshaw, and older sister Sheila.
During High School, Pat enjoyed cycling, sometimes riding solo to the sea coast and back the same day, a distance of 150 miles. She played on her school's tennis team and continued playing after marriage.
Pat's father fought in WW1, first in the trenches with the British Royal Army, surviving the battle of the Somme, then with the Royal Air Force in Egypt, Palestine, and Syria, serving as an aerial photographer. Therefore, her father was delighted when she accepted a proposal of marriage from an American airman, Ned Dee Colburn, from Stockton, Kansas. A year later, their first son, Michael was born in England. By the time he was 16, they had moved 32 times due to Ned's assignments in the US Air Force. Their second son, Steven, was born in Japan, and their daughter, Teresa, in Tennessee, after which they lived in France, and a second time in England.
Her husband's last assignment was at Lowry AFB, in Aurora. She then worked over 20 years as a special education teacher's aid at Weiland (Jefferson Country Public Schools), and took care of two special needs children in her home after school each day until their parent's finished work. After retirement, from Weiland, Pat enjoyed bike rides and walking her beloved dog Teddy in local parks or along the Platt River, meeting up with other kindred dog fanciers and bike riders.
From age 42, until the end of her life on earth, she loved Christ and avidly read and studied the Bible on a daily basis. Within minutes of talking with her, it was guaranteed that she would be change the subject to Christ. For her last 10-15 years, every day she said how much she looked forward to his second coming and getting a new body in the resurrection from the dead. Family, friends, and the world as a whole were daily in her prayers and she supported many Christian ministries, the Denver Rescue Mission, Wounded Veterans, and the Dumb Friends League.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, sister, and son Steven (Laura). She is survived by her son Michael (Lisa), daughter Teresa (Arthur), and grandchildren, Erin, Bjorn, Lael, Kristina, Gabriel (Brooke), Skyler, and William; and great-grandchildren Josiah, Merrin, Levi, Eliana, and Amelia.
The memorial and funeral will be held outdoors, at 1 PM, Monday, June 3, at Seven Stones Cemetery, 9635 N Rampart Range Rd, Littleton, CO 80125.
