Randy was born in North Platte, Nebraska to Mary Miles Minnick and Andrew Cleatus Scott. Randy was the first of four sons from this union which included Rudy, Mike and David (Deceased). He had three older stepsiblings, Richard, Allen and Constance (all Deceased). The family has lived in Thornton since 1955. Randy attended Merrit Hutton High School, graduating in 1966. While in high school, Randy was a talented Saxaphone player of the jazz band. Randy excelled academically as well and was awarded a scholarship to Western State College where he earned his associate's degree.
Randy’s life took a turn for the worse, when his father and brother, Allen, passed away within a few days of each other. Randy immediately took full responsibility for his family. He financially supported his family and also became their much-needed emotional support.
Randy worked as a mechanic for a year after graduation before he volunteered for service in the Army. He was sent to Boston for schooling where he learned to speak Vietnamese. Randy was Military Intelligence and held the rank of SGT. His Unit was the 374th Army Security Agency Radio Research Company (RR) (ASA) attached to the Green Berat. He also received his Airborne wings. He did two tours in Vietnam from 1968 to 1971. Being an Army spook, most of everything he did was classified. Randy was Honorably Discharged on Sept. 17, 1971, at Fort Carson, CO.
After returning from Vietnam, Randy met Dorene DeVore in 1974 and they got married five years later, on July 4, 1979. They had their son Stormy and two daughters, Andrea and Buffy. Randy’s life was full of experiences and excitement. He was a bouncer for Berry Fay, owned multiple businesses, worked in the oil fields and cattle slaughterhouses. Randy also worked as an airplane mechanic for Continental Airlines. He retired as Chief of Maintenace from the City of Northglenn. Randy and Dorene divorced in 2002 but remained close friends.
Randy was intelligent, funny, caring, and yes sometimes sarcastic. He loved collecting cars, jewelry, antiques, gambling, riding Harleys, traveling and most of all family. He could fix or build almost anything, hence his nick name Handy Randy.
He is survived by his ex-wife Dorene, son Stormy and daughter in law, Angela Scott, daughter Andrea, son in law to be, Andrew Cervantes, granddaughter Hannah, daughter Buffy Scott, son in law Felix Vasquez and grandchildren Abgail, Randall, and Christian. Randy is also survived by brothers Rudy and Mike Scott. He has numerous nieces, nephews, friends and people who loved him.
