Remi H. Ferraro

On Monday, September 23, 2024, Remi Hmar Ferraro passed away at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado. Born January 2, 1974 in Tlabung, Mizoram, India, Remi was the sixth of nine children born to Kapmawia and Chembuangi Hmar. Her strong faith in Christ began in early childhood, attending the Baptist church with her family. She thrived at memorizing scripture, Bible study, and took part in all the church events. Life in rural India with a large family, limited resources, and many hardships required Remi to work hard at domestic chores. She did complete high school and some college courses.

In October 1997, working for the local government official in Tlabung, Remi met JP Ferraro. They married on May 8, 1998 in her home church, with over seven hundred people attending. Remi and JP lived in Chiang Mai, Thailand, for a few months before settling in Littleton, Colorado in 1999. Remi’s focus and strong work ethic helped her advance quickly at King Soopers and later as an administrative assistant for a medical billing company.

In 2001, she gave birth to their only child Benjamin, but within a year she developed a severe case of the autoimmune disorder, lupus nephritis. Despite eventually requiring dialysis, Remi continued to bless many with her excellent culinary skills, Bible knowledge, and words of wisdom and guidance. She tutored Ben with math and reading skills in his pre-school years and guided him to maintain a high academic performance through college. As a family, they enjoyed great times with JP’s parents, church activities, international missions, and Ben’s soccer.

After receiving a kidney transplant in 2009, Remi’s quality of life improved, but her ongoing health struggles kept her from working outside the home. Remi and JP grew stronger in their relationship with each other and Christ as they sought divine healing. Their knowledge of scripture and trust in God increased significantly as they fought against illness for 22 years.

Determined to serve the Lord, despite her illness, in 2019, Remi began a grassroots revival in Mizoram. Using What’s App, she created a forum to disciple hundreds with the deeper insights she gained through her personal Bible study. Remi mobilized a core team to translate Rick Warren’s daily devotional from English to Mizo, pray and fast consistently, and provide practical help for missionaries and people with emergency needs.

Medication side effects continually troubled Remi, resulting in two heart attacks and other problems. Remi’s transplanted kidney began to deteriorate in 2022 and did not respond to chemotherapy treatments. In April 2024, Remi’s nephrologist said she was not eligible for another transplant and recommended dialysis. Remi did not want to go back onto dialysis, and took a firm stand that God would heal her miraculously.

Although Remi passed away unexpectedly, her life is a great example of perseverance and trust in God’s goodness. Remi was preceded in death by her eldest sibling and parents. Remi is survived by her husband, son, and seven siblings: Kuanga, Zaua, Dikti, Mawia, Remruati, Adina, and Pui, and many nieces and nephews.
