Rodney Gaines

Rodney Gaines, age 71, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 16th, 2023. He was born on June 19th, 1951 in Frankfort, Kentucky. Rodney was the first born to Ernest and Iva Gaines. He graduated from Owen County High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science from Eastern Kentucky University in 1975. He married Judy Kemper in Hesler, Kentucky, in 1978.

Following his passion for science, he worked for the Department of Natural Resources as a geology expert. He then struck out on his own with his company Gaines & Associates as a consulting geologist. He was hired by Pittsburgh and Midway, later Chevron, and made the move to Colorado with his family where he lived until his death.

Rodney was an intelligent, kind, witty and giving man who provided for his family and made many friends over the course of his life. His favorite past times were photography and spending time with his grandchildren. He was always there to provide help and advice to those in need, and will be missed by all he knew.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Iva, and his niece Rebekah. He is survived by his wife Judy; his sons Bryan (Yeshe); Kyle (Caitlynn); his grandchildren Kellan, Delaney and Kennedy; his brother Terry (Melissa); and his niece Kathryn. Rodney’s family will be holding a celebration of life service at Mountain View Church at 40 E Highlands Ranch Pkwy, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126 on Friday, March 31st, 2023 at 2:00pm.
