Roxanne Elizabeth Clayton

Roxanne Elizabeth (Heckinger) Clayton, age 63, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado.

She was born on February 11, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Elmer and Darlene (Jones) Heckinger. She met Don Clayton at a pool party in Altamonte Springs, Florida, and they later married on September 5, 1982. They had two children, Rashelle and Brandon. Roxanne worked for many years as an optician at the Eye Care Pavilion in Davenport, Iowa, where she loved helping people to find the right eyeglasses to fit their style.

Roxanne loved dogs and enjoyed walking them to outdoor art exhibits and sculpture parks. She also loved spending time running around and playing hide-and-seek with her four grandchildren. She often wore the color pink and enjoyed expressing her unique style through her décor, jewelry and many earrings. She had a giving heart and a generous spirit, always looking for opportunities to volunteer her time watching her grandchildren and dogs.

Roxanne was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Darlene; her brothers Ron and Fred Heckinger; her nephews, Steven and Tommy Heckinger; her niece, Kelsey Thompson; and her dogs, Brooksey, Sophie, and Chloe. She is survived by her husband, Don Clayton; her children, Rashelle Weinberg, and Brandon Clayton; her daughter-in-law Melodie Clayton; her sister Charon and brother-in-law Ken Thompson; her niece Lindsay Thompson-Lopez; and her grandchildren, Preston, Kensington, Vivian, and Ellison Weinberg.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the ASPCA, in remembrance of Roxanne’s kind and generous spirit and love for animals and children. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Seven Stones Chatfield, 9635 N Rampart Range Rd, Littleton, Colorado, on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 10:00am. A visitation will precede the service at 9:30am, and a reception will follow. Please wear a pop of pink to the service in her memory.
