Sky Van Sickle

James (aka Sky) Schuyler Curtis Van Sickle, age 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, surrounded by family in his home.

Sky was a kind-hearted man, a loving husband, and a supportive father. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1952. Sky spent his early years moving from place to place with his two brothers, John and Geoff, and his parents, Jim, and Marian. They settled in Briarcliff Manor, New York.

Some of his favorite memories came from large family get-togethers on the East Coast.

As he grew older, he developed a sense of purpose to help people. Sky obtained a degree in Psychology and English at Albany State University, New York. After graduating, he worked at Rhinebeck Country School with special needs children.

In 1978, Sky moved to Colorado. He worked at Littleton First Industrial Bank where he began his career in banking, finance, and real estate. He eventually pursued a career in mortgage banking and invested in rental properties with his brothers and parents.

In 1979, he met Laurie, and they married in 1984. They had two boys, Schuyler who adopted his fiery nature; and Sam, who picked up his empathetic nature.

Sky loved making jokes; loved photography, soccer, and long hot showers. He loved talking about world events and politics. He loved to talk to people about his rental properties and touted himself as being the friendliest and the best landlord in town. He loved watching his boys play their sports and never missed a game.

Sky was loyal to all and asked in return that they be good to themselves and others around them.

Sky had many friends who loved him. He had life-long friends. He loved camping and traveling with Laurie and their boys. He built furniture, a deck, remodeled condos, and fixed appliances. He was an overall handyman. He had many talents. Sky had the confidence to figure things out and do it.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Sky Van Sickle, please donate to Bear Creek Cemetery, P.O. Box 1364, Evergreen, CO 80437 or National Jewish Health, P.O. Box 17169, Denver, CO 80217-0169.
