Stephen Jerome Rothschild

Stephen Jerome Rothschild, age 69, passed away in Denver, Colorado, on Sunday, February 19, 2023. He was born February 16, 1954, in Berkeley, California to William Mortimer and Marion Ruth (Bicknell) Rothschild. Steve was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School in 1972, where he was a proud member of the track team. Steve attained an AAS in Digital Electronic Technology from Red Rocks Community College in 1978. He went on to have a life-long career in computer Information Technology Support. He furthered his education by attaining an AAS in Computer Programing and Technology from Westwood College of Technology in 2002, along with many other technical certifications over the years. During Steve’s 22 year tenure at Digital Equipment Corporation, Steve met Julia Faith (Bisbee) Rothschild. After working together for several years, they married on March 17, 1989. They welcomed a daughter, Victoria Rochelle, on May 17, 1993.

Steve spent 34 years with his wife and daughter, going on weekend adventures across Colorado. In their early married life, Steve and Julia played in double tennis leagues for 10 years in Ken Caryl Ranch and four-wheeled with Mile High Jeep Club for 7 years. Whether skiing, rafting, or camping, hardly a corner of the state was left unexplored. With his phone full of pictures of flowers and bookcases full of sci-fi and fantasy novels and he passed his appreciation of literature and his passion for nature’s spectacular beauty onto his daughter. Steve fostered a love of learning in Victoria by answering her innumerable questions and showing her the intrigue a trip to the zoo or museum could bring. He often volunteered in whatever her latest pursuit was, from working the food truck at Westernaires while she rode in horseback drill teams for 4 years to helping build theater sets for Valor Christian High School for an additional 4 years. Steve also enjoyed going to the shooting range with friends and live music wherever he could find it. He proudly displayed his collections of fine art and enamel pins. He cared deeply for his many pets and was often the talk of the trail when out hiking with two dachshunds and a cockatoo.

Steve enjoyed close fellowship at his churches over the years. Together he and Julia taught Sunday School for 5 years, where he was often mistaken for Jesus. He always ensured those in his life felt cared for through quiet acts of service. Anything that needed doing - he was willing to help his friends, neighbors, and church family. Steve could figure out how to fix anything around the house. Each year, the family planted a flower garden together. Above all, he did the most important thing a father can do: make sure his daughter was surrounded by his unfailing love. No one could give a hug like Steve.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marion Rothschild, his brother Matthew Rothschild, and his sisters Missy Rothschild and Katherine Rothschild-Beck. He is survived by his wife, Julia Rothschild, his daughter, Victoria Rothschild, his sister Liz Fernandez, his Aunt Janet, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steve’s Celebration of Life will be held at Discover Community Church located at 13416 W Arbor Pl, Littleton, CO 80127 on March 10, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. The memorial will be followed by a reception where light refreshments will be served.
