Tom Carwin

Tom Carwin, Age 71, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, after courageously battling Multiple Sclerosis for over 30 years.

Tom was born September 8, 1953 in Denver to Margaret and T. Jay Carwin. He spent his formative years in East Denver where he made many lifelong friends playing intermural sports.

In 1977, Tom married the love of his life, Colleen (St. CoCo), and they shared 47 wonderful years together. He cherished playing Mario Kart with his son Patrick and spent countless afternoons playing Trouble with his daughter, Christine. Tom was always eager to attend his children's activities whenever possible.

Tom dedicated his entire career to King Soopers, retiring at the age of 50 after three decades of service. Renowned for his exceptional guest service, he received numerous commendations from customers and was honored with the King Soopers President's Choice Award. Tom played a pivotal role in the installation and training of employees on the new Colorado Lottery terminals. At one point, his store accounted for 1% of all lottery transactions in the state, and he was proud to serve on the Colorado Lottery advisory board.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tom had a deep passion for gardening and created beautiful flower gardens that transformed his yard into a showcase. Another of his passions was Three-Card Poker, and he was a dedicated student of the game, whether in Las Vegas or Black Hawk.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Colleen; his brothers, Don and Bill; his son, Patrick, and his wife, Stephanie; his daughter, Christine Piburn, and her husband, Jesse; and his cherished grandchildren, Ethan Carwin (who affectionately called him "Tom Tom") and Ellie Piburn.

Despite the physical limitations imposed by his illness, Tom never complained and remained humble and kind.
