Wayne Edward Dixon Sr., passed away on June 21st, 2024 at the age of 85, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Parker, CO. He was born on August 5th, 1938 to Frank and Louise Dixon in Peoria,IL.
Throughout his battle with cancer in recent years he showed incredible courage in navigating life's challenges through humor and conversation. He will be remembered as a genuine, caring person who always put his family before himself.
Wayne was smart, intuitive, and really good working with his hands. As a teenager he raced stock cars in the Midwest for fun, then later worked as an auto mechanic, and even owned and maintained his own semi-truck for a time. He retired in 2000 after a fulfilling 15 year career serving the residents of Lisle, IL as a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service. In his free time he enjoyed hobbies like woodworking, fishing, playing poker, reading true crime, listening to music, and sending family links to articles he found online. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his grandchildren. His preoccupation with choking regularly had him reminding them to "chew, chew, twenty-two", or inquire if they "had a bone in there?" when coughing. To the end Wayne always wanted to make people laugh, which was one of his greatest gifts, and serves as an example for all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Louise; his brothers Dean and Donald; and his sisters Patricia and Janene. He is survived by his wife Joanne; his sons Wayne Jr., Steve, Mike, and Eric; his grandchildren Kristen, Wayne C., Josh, Laura, Matt, Joe, Kate, Leo, Ethan, Emma, Remi, and Miles; his great-grandchildren Alex, Aiden, Xavier, Zoie, Avery, and Halee; his brother Jim; and his sisters Kay, Judy, Alice, and Bernita. Wayne's family will be holding a burial and memorial service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois on a future date, to be announced.
