William (Bill) Harold Stangl, 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 17, 2024. He was born on March 4, 1948, in St. Louis Missouri, to Harold and Clara (Billie) (Grimm) Stangl. He was a graduate of Robert E. Peary High School in Rockville, Maryland. He spoke fondly about his childhood experiences moving around the country while his dad worked for Hilton Hotels, being the oldest son in a large catholic family of seven. He lived in Buffalo, New York; Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Rockville, Maryland then finally Lakewood, Colorado until he started his adult life by going to college in Boulder.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Colorado. Soon after that; he met, fell in love with and married Wendy Decker.
He was the patriarch of the entire Stangl family and the epitome of a provider. He enjoyed a successful career doing Computer Aided Engineering and plant design coordination for Raytheon (1973-1995) and Fluor Daniel (1995-1999). He finished his career as a Computer Aided Engineering Systems Manager with Jacobs Engineering and retired in 2015. He was well liked by his colleagues, known for his friendly demeanor and expertise.
Though committed to his professional career, it paled in comparison to his love and enthusiasm for his kids (Scott, Tracey, and Kristen) and their sports. He often found himself coaching or at the very least a steady, constant supporter on the sidelines. He served on the board of Douglas County Soccer Association and president there for a term. He and Wendy always joked that their vacations were soccer tournaments, but they truly were happiest watching their kids play. He enjoyed camping and fishing with Wendy, taking their RV to their favorite spots or making their way up to their cabin getaway. Bill was very handy, often tinkering with a new project at one of their houses, never one to sit still or shy away from a challenge of fixing something. Perhaps the role he cherished most in his retired years was being ‘Pop’ to his seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Clara (Billie), his older sister, Juleanne, and most recently the love of his life, his wife, Wendy. He often spoke about how much he missed his sparring partner, someone to banter with over the latest current events or even to bicker about who was right in an inconsequential argument. Surely, he is grateful to be with her again.
He is survived by his children that are heartbroken by his passing; son Scott (wife Tami and sons Donovan and Brady), daughter Tracey (husband Dan and children Rya, Titan, and Briar) and daughter Kristen (husband Clint and daughters Braxton and Sterling). He is deeply missed by his siblings; Pat Boyd (husband Gary), Peggy Riordon (husband John), Lynne Hogan (husband Mike), Kurt Stangl (wife Karin) and Terri Marchbank (husband Brian) and sister-in-law Peggy Decker-Berry (husband Ken) and brother-in-law Bill Decker. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, as well as other family members and many friends.
Service and a reception will be held Friday November 1st 11:00-1:30 at Mountainview Christian Church, 40 E Highlands Ranch Parkway, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126.
